Police say they will produce him before the court
Police have arrested a local BNP leader from his residence in Tangail’s Beparipara on charges of sabotage.
Farhad Iqbal, general secretary of BNP’s Tangail district unit, was held early on Friday, said Tangail model police station’s OC Sayedur Rahman.
He said the BNP leader was arrested in a sabotage case and he would be produced before the court later in the day.
Farhad was accused of obstructing police officials from discharging their duties – as well asinjuring them – in August, the OC said.
BNP Tangail district unit President Shamsul Alam Tofa condemned the arrest.
“Police have arrested him in a false case. We demand the police release him immediately.”
Tofa alleged that police raided the houses of other local BNP leaders and activists on Thursday night.
