Detective Branch of police (DB) has arrested five BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists from separate areas in Satkhira.
They were arrested from Baliapur in Shyamnagar and Basukhali in Ashashuni in the early hours of Friday. Police said they had also seized three cocktail explosives, a few sharp weapons and Jihadi books alongside a huge number of leaflets from them.
In a press briefing held at the Satkhira DB headquarters, Sub-Inspector of Satkhira district detective branch Shahriar Hasan informed that police arrested the leaders and activists from different areas after receiving a tip-off.
Two Jamaat leaders- Amir Nazrul Islam from Shyamnagar upazila and Amir Azharul Islam from Fingri union- were among the arrestees, he said. They had books on Jihadi literature and leaflets with them, the police official said.
Shahriar further said, on the same night, Habibur Rahman from Godara and Ali Haider and Md Ashraful from Basukhali- all accused in different cases of sabotage- were holding a secret meeting inside a fish depot in Basukhali bazaar in Ashashuni.
Police arrested and seized several sharp weapons from them, he informed.
