A Bogra court Wednesday granted police three days to interrogate five suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB),including two top leaders, who were arrested from the district’s Sherpurupazila same day.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Raihan passed the order around 5pm in the afternoon.
The five suspects were presented before the court hours after Detective Branch (DB) of police’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Firoz Sarker filed a case against them at Sherpur police station under the anti-terror act.
Case investigation officer SI Nuruzzaman said: “We had sought a 10daysto question them. But the court granted only three days after the hearing.”
The five suspected JMB men, identified as Shahidullah alias Masum, 41, Bulbul alias Sohagh, 32, Atikur Rahman alias Saikat, 33, Mizanur Rahman, 35, and Masud Rana, 31, were arrested by police during a raid in the early hours of Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, Bogra’sAdditional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle)Sanatan Chakrabarty said, a DBteam had conducted the drive in Mirzapur area and arrested them.
Police also recovered two pistols, 10 bullets and three knives from their possession at the time.
The arrestees were taken to the local DB office before being presented before the court.
