A Khagrachhari court has given police two days to interrogate Barendra Tripura, alias Shanto, a suspect in fifth-grader Kritika Tripura Punati’s murder case, in custody.

Shanto is a member of JSS-MN Larma faction’s youth affiliate. He is also accused in an UPDF activist’s murder case in Khagrachhari Sadar.

He was arrested on September 1, at Dighinala’s Larma Square, on suspicion of being involved in the murder — said local police station Officer-in-Charge, and the case’s investigation officer, Abdus Samad.

Police sought the court’s permission to interrogate him for seven days but was instead granted two days, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of Punati did not unearth any evidence of rape. The report said she was sexually abused before her murder.

Dr Noyonmoy Tripura, who prepared the report, declined to comment.

Punati was found, murdered, on July 28, at Noymile Tripura village in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala. Her mother filed a case with Dighinala police the next night without naming anyone.

Police have arrested and interrogated five suspects in the case.
