Edible oil refinery fined for polluting Karnaphuli River

On Monday, a DoE team found that the company had been illegally dumping liquid waste into the river

The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined an edible oil refinery Tk364,800 for discharging untreated liquid waste into the Karnaphuli River. It did so via a bypass.

Azadur Rahman Mollick, director of DoE (Chittagong Metro), penalized the errant oil refinery – identified as Bay Fishing Corporation Ltd – during a hearing at the DoE office on Tuesday.

On Monday, a DoE team conducted a drive at the oil refinery and found that the company had been illegally discharging liquid waste into the river.

DoE Assistant Director (Technical) of Chittagong Metro Sangjukta Das Gupta told the Dhaka Tribune that during the hearing, the oil refinery was warned their unit would be closed down if the offense was repeated.
