Different religious, cultural and social organizations have chalked out elaborate programs in observance of the Janmashtami

The country's Hindu community is celebrating Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, with festivity and religious fervor on Sunday. The day is a public holiday.

Different religious, cultural and social organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Janmashtami, reports BSS.

National dailies have published special articles while Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, other private TV channels and radio stations will air special programmes highlighting various aspects of the eventful life of Sri Krishna.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the Hindu community on the occasion in separate messages.

President Abdul Hamid is set to exchange greetings with eminent citizens of Hindu community at Bangabhaban from 11am to 12 noon.

Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee will also organize a two-day program at the Dhakeshwari National Temple starting on Sunday.

The programs include worship of Lord Krishna, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan and discussions.

The traditional Janmashtami procession is scheduled to be brought out from the national temple at 3pm. 

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is set to be present at the Janmashtami procession as the chief guest, while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon will inaugurate it.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will be present as the special guest.
