A Pabna court on Sunday sent industrialist Abul Hossain to jail after three days' remand in the case of the killing of journalist Suborna Akter Nodi, former wife of Abul's son Rajib Hossain.

Investigation officer SI Orbinda Sarker said Abul was produced before the court in the afternoon led by Judge Rashed Hossain after three-day remand.

Later the court sent him to the jail, he added.

Criminals hacked Nodi, 30, the Pabna correspondent of Ananda TV, to death when she was entering her home in Pabna town around 10pm on August 28, and she died at Pabna Medical College Hospital the same night.

The victim's mother filed a murder case accusing Rajib Hossain, former husband of Nodi, Rajib's father Abul Hossain, and four to five people with Pabna police station on August 29.

The case was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Police arrested Abul Hossain on August 30 and produced him before the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court, said Md Monirul Islam, officer in charge (OC) of Pabna DB.

Pabna Chief Judicial Court Judge Rashed Hossain approved the three-day remand when police sought to place Abul Hossain on remand for seven days.

Meanwhile, journalists across the country protested the murder.

Many prominent personalities demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused.

Police have yet to arrest the rest of the suspects.
