Alal Uddin, from Noyapara village in Tangail's Mirzapur, was admitted to the MMC ward of Kumudini Hospital with a chest pain that gradually increased
Doctors were forced to flee a Tangail hospital after the relatives of a 55-year-old man who died on Thursday evening went on the rampage, accusing them of mistreatment and negligence.
Alal Uddin, from Noyapara village in Tangail's Mirzapur, was admitted to the MMC ward of Kumudini Hospital with a chest pain that gradually increased.
His sister Firoza Begum, along with his nephew Alamin and other relatives, asked the doctors and nurses to quickly provide him with treatment.
However, his family claim that the doctor was busy listening to music and browsing Facebook and soon became angry with them, asking them to leave the premises.
The relatives say they returned to Alal and found him writhing in chest pain. His limbs turned black and blue after a nurse gave him a wrong injection, and he died not long afterwards.
Following Alal’s death, his relatives vandalized the hospital and tried to attack the doctors, who escaped the facility before police rushed to the scene.
“Alal died because of the negligence of doctors and nurses,” Firoza Begum said.
The director of Kumudini Hospital, Dr. Pradip Kumar Rai, told the Dhaka Tribune that “necessary actions” will be taken if the duty doctors and nurses - who were not traceable on Friday - are found guilty of any wrongdoing.
"An investigation committee has been formed regarding the Alal death incident. The situation is under control now," he said.
Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mizanul Haque said police went to the hospital immediately after the incident and brought the situation under control.
He added that the deceased's family has not issued a written complaint yet.
