A boy named Shakib has been killed after being hit by a bus in Kushtia.

The accident took place around 3pm on Friday when he was trying to cross the road across the city's Kanabil Mor.

The deceased is Shakib, 10, son of Tofazzel Hossain from the Mongol Baria area of Kushtia city.

Additional Police Superintendent of Kushtia (Sadar circle) Nurani Ferdousi Disha confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Locals and sources from the police have informed that a speeding bus hit the boy when he was crossing the road near Kanabil intersection on Kushtia-Ishwardi Highway around 3pm and drove away.

Locals rescued the critically injured Shakib and took him to the hospital Kushtia General Hospital. There, he died in the evening while being under treatment.

A similar incident took place on the morning of August 28. Afifa’s mother Rina Begum was walking down the road carrying her infant in front of a stationary bus named Ganjeraaj near Chourhash intersection of Kushtia.

Afifa was knocked from her mother’s arms when the bus hit them. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed in a nearby jewelry shop.

The mother and the child were initially admitted to Kushtia General Hospital, but Afifa was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after her condition deteriorated.

The infant died on Thursday, following two days of treatment at DMCH. She was buried at the Chourhash Graveyard after her funeral in Kushtia the same day.
