Suspected robbers killed in Magura ‘gunfight’

Police seized seven bullet shells, four meat cleavers, and some other equipment used in robbery from the scene

Two suspected robbers have been killed in a so-called gunfight among two gangs in Magura, police say. The incident occurred on early Saturday in the sadar upazila’s Rautra area.

Police identified the deceased as Sibadul Islam Siba, 42, a resident of Magura Sadar, and Kamal Molla, 32, from Jessore. They said the two men were members of an inter-district robbers’ gang.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tarikul Islam said they were tipped off about members of two robber gangs were fighting over the distribution of looted goods.

A police team reached the scene around 4am and found two robbers on the spot with bullet injuries, he told the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the duo was taken to Magura Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctor pronounced them dead. 

The police officer said Siba and Kamal were accused in eight and five criminal cases respectively.
