Police have found the bullet-riddled body of a man in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. According to local police, the deceased- Abdul Bari, 47, was a local leader of an extremist group.
The body was found lying on a field near Hogoldanga village on Saturday morning.
Confirming the matter, Damurhuda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shukumar Biswas told the Dhaka Tribune: “We learned that Abdul was meeting several members of an extremist group on a field late Friday night.
“The members had a dispute over the future leadership of the group. The dispute soon escalated into a clash as the culprits began shooting at each other, leaving Abdul dead on the spot. The rest of the gang escaped the scene.”
According to police sources, the deceased was accused in several cases filed with different police stations over murder, extortion and robbery.
Responding to a query, the OC said: “Abdul had been hiding in India for some time. We suspect that he returned home to reorganize an extremist organization, which he belonged to. We have launched an investigation to probe the circumstances behind his death.”
The body has been sent to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
