A suspected drug dealer has been killed in what RAB described as a gunfight in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila.

The alleged gunfight took place on Friday morning in front of the Teknaf Sadar Upazila’s Palli Bidyut office.

Police identified the suspected drug dealer as Azizul Haq, 40, a resident of Dhaka’s Savar.

Quoting RAB officials, Teknaf police’s Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said RAB members had set up a check post in front of the Palli Bidyut office in the morning.

Azizul was coming to Cox’s Bazar with drugs and firearms. He opened fire on RAB members at the check post, triggering a skirmish, Ranjit said.

Azizul was injured in the gunfight. Doctors at a local hospital pronounced him dead when the RAB members brought him there, the police officer added.

Nearly 65,000 yaba pills, a foreign-made pistol, and a number of bullets were also recovered from the spot, the OC said.
