A woman has died from burn injuries allegedly inflicted by her in-laws in Tangail.
Shapla Begum, the 22-year-old wife of Rabbi Islam of Nardahi Charpara village under Kalihati upazila, succumbed to her injuries in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
Locals said they heard the victim's screams at around 1am on Wednesday but by the time they had rushed to the scene, Shapla was already severely burnt and unconscious.
She was taken to Tangail General Hospital but as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to DMCH.
Kalihati police station Officer-in-Charge Mir Mosharraf Hossain said they had not received any complaint up to the filing of this report on Thursday.
The victim’s mother, Marjina Begum, claimed Shapla's husband often used to torture her for dowry.
