The first Eid jamaat was held on this site in 1828
The largest Eid congregation of the country has been held at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj.
Thousands of devotees joined the prayer around 9am on Wednesday. Maulana Hifzur Rahman Khan conducted the Eid prayer.
Sholakia Eidgah held its 191st Eid-ul-Azha congregation this year.
Leaders of different political parties, and government officials, took part in the jamaat alongside crowds of devotees.
Stringent security measures were taken in and around the congregation venue— to prevent attacks like the 2016 militant attack near the site.
The first Eid jamaat was held in 1828 at these grounds. Maulana Sayeed Ahmed, of Bowlai Shaheb Bari in Kishoreganj, was the first Imam to conduct the Eid jamaat. It was attended by about 125,000 devotees.
Later, Mannan Dad Khan, former Dewan of Haibatnagar in Kishoreganj, gifted 4.35 acres of land, through a Wakf deed, in 1950, and now the Eidgah has seven acres of land. This Eidgah is situated on the northern bank of the Norsunda River.
