Monday morning’s half-day road blockade is underway in Khagrachhari. Participants are protesting the killings of seven people – including the leaders and activists of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) – and demanding punishment for the killers.
UPDF-backed organizations –Pahari Chhatra Parishad, Hill Women’s Federation, and Ganatantrik Jubo Forum – announced that the blockade will continue till 12 mid-day.
Long distance vehicles have not left for their destinations since Monday morning.
Additional law enforcers were deployed at strategic points of the hilly town to avert untoward incidents.
Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police Ali Ahmed Khan said joint forces are conducting drives to capture the perpetrators of the killings.
