Two suspected drug traders have been killed in a “gunfight” with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in sadar upazila of Feni district.

Md Mamum Morshed, 35, and Md Al-Amin were killed in the “gunfight” which took place on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, around 4am, on Monday.

RAB 7 Camp Captain Squadron Leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “We set up a checkpost in the area to search passengers. The duo tried to flee when the RAB team obstructed their motorcycle.

“The elite force members gave chased them. At one stage, they opened fire on us, forcing us to fire back—that left Morshed and Al-Amin dead on the spot.”

A pistol, five rounds of bullets, and 24,700 yaba pills were recovered after searching the motorcycle.

The RAB official said the bodies are at Feni Modern Sadar Hospital and will be handed over to the family members after autopsies have been performed.
