One dead in gunfight between smugglers and forest workers in Cox’s Bazar

Three forest guards were among the injured

A youth was killed and five people were injured during a gunfight between forest workers and wood smugglers in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.

The incident happened on Friday morning at the Chanderghona area of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station OC Md Farid Uddin Khandker identified the victim as Md Mostak, the 30-year-old son of Mohammad Ullah of the same area.

“The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” the OC said.

Three forest guards were among the injured.

The injured are Mannan Khan, 42, son of late Abdul Majid of Barguna district; Shahidul Islam, 30, son of Abdul Matin of Dhaka; and Mamunur Rashid 55, son of  Abdur Rashid of Sirajganj.

The identities of the other two residents of the area could not be confirmed.
