Passengers on their way home ahead of the Eid suffer on the road for the fourth successive day
A 30km tailback took shape on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway from Comilla’s Daudkandi upazila on Friday following a road accident, inflicting untold sufferings on passengers for the fourth consecutive day.
Daudkandi highway police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said a truck overturned in Bhaberchar area of Gozaria upazila, Munshiganj around 3am, halting vehicular movement on the highway for two hours, reports UNB.
It led to a tailback stretching from Daudkandi’s Amirabad area to Narayanganj’s Sonargaon Chowrasta, the OC said.
He further said the rush of homeward-bound people and heavy pressure of cattle-laden vehicles ahead of Eid-ul-Azha also aggravated the situation.
Friday saw passengers suffering for the fourth successive day as the tailback on the highway had started on Tuesday.
Comilla University student Jahidul Islam, who was going to his village home to celebrate Eid with his family, said he had been stuck in the traffic in Daudkandi for three hours.
The situation improved slightly in the Comilla portion of the highway later in the afternoon.
