A deputy assistant agriculture officer has been detained along with another man by members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 15 battalion for having the drug phensedyl in their possession.

The two were detained at the India-Bangladesh border in the Kashipur area under Fulbari upazila of Kurigram on Saturday evening.

BGB Kashipur camp Company Commander Subedar Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter, stating that the two detained suspects are Jahangir Alam, 30, and Sohel Rana, 32. Rana is the agriculture officer of the two.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mahbubur Rushdi has said Rana has been fired from his job, and that he has asked higher authorities to take action against him.

According to BGB, after receiving a tipoff, they conducted an anti-narcotics drive near Anantapur Ideal High School. Sometime after, the two suspects were attempting to pass through the area on a bike when they were stopped. Upon conducting a search, six bottles of phensedyl were found in their possession.
