A tip-off led to his detention by BGB at 10pm on Thursday
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained a man with 624 gold bars, weighing 73kg, along the Shikarpur border in Jessore.
The detainee is Mohiuddin, who was held by BGB personnel from Narkelbaria Village around 10pm on Thursday.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Shikarpur BGB Camp Commander Subedar Shafikul Islam said: “Due to a tip-off, we learned that a huge consignment of gold would be smuggled through the Shikarpur border to India.
“A BGB team, led by Habildar Mukul, conducted a raid in the Narkelbaria Village and detained a gold smuggler named Mohiuddin with 73 kg of gold and a machete.”
He added that Mohiuddin has been handed over to the Saharsa police station.
