BNP Standing Committee and former commerce minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was sued under the ICT and Special Powers acts after an audio clip over the ongoing students' movement for safe roads went viral.
Zakaria Dastagir, acting general secretary of the Chittagong city unit of Chhatra League lodged the case with Kotwali police station under Section 57 (2) of the Information and Communication Technology Act and Section 15 (3) of the Special Powers Act around on Saturday, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station.
According to the case, the plaintiff alleged that the BNP leader was hatching a conspiracy against the country and made provocative speeches in a bid to incite anarchy.
It is worth mentioning that an audio clip went viral on social media in which it is assumed that BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was exploiting the ongoing protest for road safety.
In the clip, which went viral on YouTube and Facebook since Saturday afternoon, a phone conversation was heard between two men, one young and one old.
In the conversation, which lasted one minute and 49 seconds, the older person asked the youth whether his group was involved in the protest.
He also asked the youth to mobilize 200-400 people and join the demonstrations in Dhaka, and to flood Facebook with posts.
