Police assault Prothom Alo journalist in Sylhet

The incident occurred at the Ambarkhan Chandantula Government Primary School voting centre in Sylhet’s Sadar upazila around 3pm

A journalist of Bangla daily the Prothom Alo was assaulted by police during the Sylhet City Corporation election on Monday. 

The incident occurred at the Ambarkhan Chandantula Government Primary School voting centre in Sylhet’s Sadar upazila around 3pm.

According to Prothom Alo’s Sylhet Bureau Chief Uzzal Mehedi, the newspaper’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) correspondent Mesbah Uddin was taking pictures of some youths who were engaged in casting fake votes, when some policemen snatched his phone away and began beating him.

Afterwards, Awami League Mymensingh division Organizing Secretary Mesbah Uddin returned the phone to him, but police kept the memory card. 

Journalist Mesbah Uddin is currently receiving treatment at Sylhet Sadar General Hospital.
