Statement comes as Chittagong city mayor completes three years in office
Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has urged city residents put up with the inconvenience of development activities as they will help transform the port city.
Talking about the development projects which are being executed by different agencies in the port city, he termed development a “pain”.
"The city dwellers are suffering as ongoing development projects are mostly restricted to the roads and streets. It is hardly possible to carry out development activities without excavating the roads and streets," the mayor said.
He made the statement at program organized to mark the mayor’s three years in office on Monday. In the program, the mayor talked about development projects in Chittagong.
Nasir also informed the gathering about various development projects which were undertaken in all 41 wards of the city corporation in the last three years—many of which are yet to be completed.
The mayor said city dwellers should rest assured as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, herself, shouldered the responsibility of Chittagong during 2009.
“Many service-providing organizations, including: Chittagong City Corporation, Roads and Highway, BTCL, and Chittagong Wasa, are implementing various development projects in the city. To that end, roads, streets, and drains must be excavated to set up utility pipelines,” Nasir added.
The mayor also expressed his optimism that Chittagong would transform into an excellent city soon after the completion of the ongoing development projects.
Nasir also sought cooperation from the media, and the people, to complete the development initiatives.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam; CWASA Managing Director AKM Fazullah; Freedom Fighters Shahabuddin, and Mozaffar Ahmed; President of Chittagong Press Club Kalim Sarwar; President of Chittagong Union of Journalists' Nazim Uddin Shyamol; among others, spoke at the program.
