Masud Rana Farid, 42, former UP member, was killed early on Friday at the Jalchhatra Magantinagar area
A suspected drug peddler has been killed in a so-called gunfight between two rival gangs in Tangail. The deceased, Masud Rana Farid, 42, had served as a UP member.
The incident occurred in the Jalchhatra Magantinagar area under Madhupur upazila in the early hours of Friday.
Confirming the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police in Tangail, Ahaduzzaman Mia, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Two gangs of illegal narcotics traders met in the Jalchhatra Magantinagar area to split their profits and trade drugs.
“The gangs got into an argument with each other over the distribution of drug money, and the dispute escalated into a gunfight. On a tip-off, police arrived on the scene, on Friday morning, and found Farid’s body on the spot.”
The deceased had served as a member in Aronkhola Union Parishad.
Adding further details, Madhupur police station Officer-in-Charge Safikul Islam said: “Police got a tip-off from the locals, and found Farid’s body on the scene. No contraband has been found in the area.”
He said that the body will be sent to Tangail General Hospital.
According to police sources, Farid hailed from Kakraid Village under Aronkhola Union, and was accused in five drug-related cases.
