The fire at the office of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Chittagong has been brought under control after nearly an hour of efforts.

The fire broke out around 11:15am, caused by an electric short circuit, said Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chittagong.

The fire fighters were able to douse the fire around 12:10pm using 13 fire trucks, he told the Dhaka Tribune.

"The extent of damage caused by the fire could not be ascertained immediately. The Chittagong police authorities formed a four-member probe committee, including a representative from the Fire Service, to determine the damage," he added.
