The doctors were able to save the mother unharmed
A woman named Mousumi Akter gave birth to sextuplets at Naogaon Sadar Hospital, but the fetuses died during childbirth, on Saturday.
According to the relatives, Mousumi became pregnant around four months ago, and ultrasonography tests confirmed that she was carrying six babies.
Mousumi went into labour on Saturday morning, and gave birth to a fetus at her home. She was taken to the Sadar Hospital after her condition deteriorated. Doctors delivered five more fetuses, but could not save any of them.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Senior Staff Nurse of the hospital, Fahana, said: “It is very difficult to save fetuses that are only four months old. We were able to save the mother because she was quickly brought to the hospital.”
Echoing the same statement, Civil Surgeon Dr Mominul Haque said: “We could not save the fetuses, but the mother survived unharmed.”
The news of the sextuplets has attracted hundreds of curious visitors to the hospital.
