Nabiganj Degree College Principal Golam Hossain Azad, who protested the sexual harassment of a college student, has been stabbed by two miscreants, along with the girl he tried to protect and an office assistant who came to his aid.

The incident occurred at the Honours Bhaban of Nabiganj Degree College in the Nabiganj upazila under the Habiganj district around 12:30pm on Tuesday.

Severely injured, Golam Hossain and the office assistant have been admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. The girl, an 18-year-old, also received treatment for her wounds.

Students of the college said the culprit, Dipon Ahmed Munna, used to sexually harass the girl on a regular basis, and on Monday he forcefully took a picture of her at the gate of the college.

When she complained to Principal Golam Hossain Azad, he immediately called Munna to his office to admonish him.

However, this made Munna furious and he attacked the three people present with his accomplice, 18-year-old Humayun Kabir.

Following this incident, college students and teachers held protest rallies in the town, blocking roads for almost three hours before calling it off and announcing a 24-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the two miscreants.

Although Humayun was arrested by police, he managed to flee on his motorcycle. Both are from the Madanpur village in the upazila.
