A leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) has been shot dead by a gang of assailants in Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachhari.
The victim, Shanti Jibon Chakma, 40, was gunned down on Sunday morning in Sarbeshwar neighborhood of Taindong, after he was called away from his home by his assailants.
Matiranga police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Jakir Hossain confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, adding that a police team has been dispatched to the area, which is remote and near the border.
Shanti served as the general secretary of Taindong Union unit Jubo Samiti, an associate organization of the MN Larma group under the PCJSS.
Commenting on the incident, JSS (MN Larma group) Central Committee's Publicity Secretary Sudhakar Tripura blamed the party’s political opposition United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) for the murder of Shanti.
UPDF has firmly denied the allegation.
