President of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Col (retired) Oli Ahmed's motorcade came under attack and his vehicle was vandalised on Wednesday when he was on his way to a function in Chandina upazila.
Oli alleged that the attack was carried out by leaders and activists of the local units of Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League.
He said the attackers had hurled brickbats at his car, breaking the rear glass and damaging the vehicle’s rear end. The LDP chief was in the car, but remained unscathed.
Witnesses said the ruling party men carried out the attack on the street to Redwan Ahmed College in Chandina municipality in the afternoon, when Oli Ahmed was going to attend the inauguration ceremony of a new building there.
The upazila chairman and local Awami League leaders were unavailable for comments.
However, Chandina police OC Md Shamsul Islam said they were yet to receive any complaint regarding the attack or vandalism. “We will take necessary steps once we receive a written complaint.”
