The burnt body of inspector Mamun Imran Khan of Dhaka Special Branch has been recovered from a forest in Rayerdia area of Kaliganj Upazila in the district on Tuesday.
Two days earlier, the police officer went missing from his brother's house at Sabujbag area of Dhaka.
Md Harun ur Rashid, Gazipur police superintendent (SP) said that the locals found a body wrapped in a sack which was burnt and left abandoned in the forest of Rayerdia village in Ulukhola area.
He commented: “Some miscreants might have killed Mamun and dumped his body in the forest.”
Right after becoming informed, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The body was then sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for autopsy.
