Suspected drug trader injured in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader has been injured in a reported gunfight with police at Baliadying in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district on Sunday.

The injured is Matiur Rahman Moti, 30, son of Amir of Charkanapara. He is accused in 10 drug-related cases.

Abdur Razzak, senior assistant superintendent of the district police, said police conducted a drive in the area around 3am to recover arms and drugs.

When the law enforcers reached the area, a gang of drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, which left Moti injured.

He has been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Three policemen were also injured in the incident.

Police recovered four machetes, 200gm of heroine, and cash from the spot.
