Road accidents kill 11, injure 30 in six districts


Most of the incidents took place in Gaibandha, Chittagong, Habiganj, Dhaka’s Savar and Natore on Monday

Eleven people have been killed and at least 30 others injured in separate road accidents in six districts across the country.

Most of the incidents took place in Gaibandha, Chittagong, Habiganj, Dhaka’s Savar and Natore on Monday.

Another incident on Sunday had resulted into the death of a teenager in Naogaon.

Gaibandha: 4 killed

Four people were killed and at least 28 others injured after a head-on collision between two buses on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway at Kalitola in the district’s Gobindaganj upazila around 12pm Monday.

Two of the deceased had died on the spot and the other two at Bogra’s Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) later in the afternoon, police said.

Twelve of the injured were admitted to SZMCH and the rest at Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.

Traffic on the highway was halted for over an hour. Vehicular movement resumed after the damaged buses were moved from the road after 1pm.

Chittagong: 3 killed

Three people were killed on the spot and two others injured after a truck crashed head-on into a motorcycle at Shekherkhil intersection in the district’s Banshkhali upazila around 12:30pm.

Police said the injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Habiganj: 1 killed

A six-year-old girl died after she was run over by a battery-driven auto-rickshaw in Godainagar area at the district’s Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said the child was crossing a road with her mother when the incident happened. Doctors declared her dead after she was rushed to the Modern District Sadar Hospital.

Savar: 1 killed

A sexagenarian woman was killed after a bus ran over her on Salehpur Bridge in the upazila’s Aminbazar area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway around 4pm Monday.

Police later recovered and took the body to Savar model police station.

Natore: 1 killed

A motorcycle rider was run over and killed by a truck in Arambaria Bazar area in the district’s Lalpur upazila Monday afternoon.

Witnesses and police said the motorcyclist was trying to overtake the truck when he ended up crushed under the wheels of the truck.

Police later impounded the truck, but its driver and his assistant managed to flee.

Naogaon: 1 killed

A 16-year-old boy was killed and another injured on Sunday evening after a collision between a motorcycle and a human haulier in the district town’s Jailkhana More area on the Bypass Road.

The teenager was on the motorcycle with his uncle, who was later admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with critical injuries, police said.
