30 hurt in clash at a Bangabandhu University football match

Police have been deployed in the area following the incident

At least 30 people have been injured in a clash between locals and students at a football match at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj. 

The students vandalized several shops and set fire to two motorcycles on campus in the Gobra area. 

Among the injured, 15 students are now undergoing treatment at Gopalganj General Hospital. 

According to locals, students and local youths had an altercation which led to a brawl while playing football at the university campus on Wednesday evening. 

Following the incident, locals assaulted several students on campus. Outraged, students vandalized a number of shops and set fire to motorcycles. 

The skirmish continued for three hours until 10pm, said Gopalganj sadar police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Monirul Islam.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area following the incident, he said.
