'The work will begin from Friday morning, but everything will still depend on the weather'
The fifth span of the Padma Bridge will be installed on the 41st and 42nd piers, in Munshiganj on Friday, confirmed Padma Bridge Assistant Engineer (main bridge) Humayun Kabir.
He said: “The Seven S (super structure) span will be set up on Friday.
“Earlier on Thursday, the span was taken to Jazira point of the bridge by the floating crane Tian E, from the Mawa construction yard, in Munshiganj. It was supposed to reach on Wednesday, but bad weather conditions, did not make it possible” he added.
Humayun further said: “The work will begin from Friday morning, but everything will still depend on the weather.”
Engineers have said 600 metres of the bridge was visible after the installation of the fourth span. The fifth span will add another 150 metres of the bridge.
They further said each span of the bridge is 150 metres long and weighs 3, 140 tons. A total of 41 spans will be installed on 42 piers.
40 out of the 42 piers will be above water and the rest will be on the bank of the river.
