Five people were also injured by lightning strikes
Lightning strikes have left six people dead and five injured in four districts across the country in the last two days.
A fishery owner, Shaju Hossain, was struck by lightning on Monday in Satkhira’s Boukari union.
Boukari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Asaduzzaman and Satkhira police station Officer-in-Charge Maruk Ahmed confirmed the matter.
Asaduzzaman said Shaju was hit by lightning when he was on his way home in heavy rain. Two other people were injured by lightning strikes in the district – their identities are not yet known.
Two people died due to lightning strikes in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur district on Sunday afternoon. One of them was a fisherman, Md Ishaq Ali, who was struck and killed by lightning when he went to the banks of Brahmaputra.
The other deceased is identified as Md Abdullah, a primary school student, who struck by lightning while he was playing football in the rain near his house, confirmed Dewanganj police station Officer-in-Charge, Md Aminul Haque.
A construction worker, Abir Hossain, was struck by lightning on Sunday night in Tangail’s Mirzapur.
Confirming the matter, Mirzapur police station Officer-in-Charge, AKM Mizanur Haque, said the incident took place while Abir was on his way home from work. Abir was later taken to Kumudini Hospital where he was declared dead.
Two fishermen have died and three were left injured due to lightning strikes in Netrakona’s Mohangor upazila on Sunday night.
Mohangor police station Officer-in-Charge Ansari Jinnat Ali said the fishermen were catching fish on Sunday night. The incident happened when it started to rain around 8pm.
The deceased are – Motiur Rahman and Shokku Mia. The injured are – Ziaur Rahman, Sultan Mia and Milon Mia.
