A wanted drug dealer was snatched from police custody by his cohorts after he was arrested at Jalanda village in Natore’s Baraigram upazila on Saturday.

Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) identified as Shiblu Rahman, 29, and Motiur Rahman, 28, were injured in the assault and later admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.

Baraigram police OC Dilip Kumar Das said, as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, the ASIs had arrested Jahidul Islam, 35, an accused in a drug case, from Jalanda village in the morning.

When they were returning from there, some of his family members and locals attacked the policemen and fled after snatching Jahidul from their custody.

On information, additional police members rushed to the spot and rescued the injured duo before taking them to the hospital.

Two platoon police later in the afternoon conducted another raid and detained eight others over their suspected connection to the incident. But they are yet to arrest the wanted man.

The OC said a case would be filed over the matter.
