Since June 1, over 200 people have been killed and numerous injured in road accidents all over the country
Seven people, including a four-year-old and a 60-year-old, have been killed and many others injured in separate road accidents across Bangladesh.
The accidents took place in Sirajganj, Dhaka’s Savar, Naogaon, Madaripur, Tangail and Satkhira on Sunday.
Since June 1, more than 200 people have been killed and numerous injured in road accidents all over the country, with 37 of them dying on Saturday alone.
Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound bus and a pickup van on the Hatikumrul-Banpara Highway in Harinchara area in the district’s Salanga in the early hours, police said.
The deceased were identified as the bus’s supervisor Shahin Ahmed and Rezaul Islam - both from Pabna Sadar upazila.
The injured were admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.
Shahin had died on the spot after the collision. Emergency services had rescued the injured and sent them to different hospitals. Rezaul died while undergoing treatment.
Although the bus and pickup were impounded by police, the drivers and their assistants of both vehicles fled the scene.
In Dhaka’s Savar, a phensedyl carrying pickup van rear-ended a motorcycle and killed the rider on Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Hemayetpur around 9:30am Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali Sarder from Shariatpur’s Shakhipur upazila, police said.
Locals then seized the pickup, but the driver managed to flee. Police later recovered Yusuf’s body and brought it to Savar model police station.
Sub-Inspector Abul Kashem said police also recovered 550 bottles of banned phensedyl from the vehicle.
A case was later filed with Savar model police over the matter.
A 60-year-old man was run over by a truck on Paharpur road in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ershad Ali from the upazila’s Paharpur Sardarpara village.
Sadar police OC Abdul Hai said the sexagenarian was left with critical injuries after the Badalgachhi-bound truck ran over him and fled the scene.
Ershad died while being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital by the locals.
A four-year-old boy was killed and his parents injured after a truck ran over the motorcycle the family was on at Hausdi Bazar in the district’s Sadar upazila around 2pm on Sunday.
The deceased child was identified as Rahmatullah. His father Chunnu Sarder and mother were admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital after locals rescued them, police said.
The child had died on spot after the truck crashed into Chunnu’s motorcycle, said Sadar police OC Kamrul Hasan.
He said Rahmatullah’s body was kept in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
Tangail: Motorcyclist dies after losing control
In the district’s Kalihati upazila, a 19-year-old motorcyclist died after he lost control and drove into a roadside shop on the Balla-Rampur Road around 4pm Sunday.
The victim was identified as Sakim Uddin. He was severely injured after going off the road and crashing inside the shop in front of the Balla Al Mokarram Jame Mosque.
Sakim died while being taken to Tangail General Hospital, Kalihati police OC Mir Mosharraf Hossain said.
Satkhira: 1 killed, 2 injured
An 18-year-old named Habib was killed and two others injured after a collision between his motorcycle and a Dhaka-bound bus around 6:30pm Sunday in the district’s Debhata upazila.
Duty doctors at the Upazila Health Complex declared Habib dead after he was rushed there, police said.
One of the injured was identified as Gaffar, 38, police said. He and the other wounded person were admitted to the hospital.
