A Jubo League leader has died after being attacked in Jessore.

Jubo League leader Arafat Munaf  Liton, 32, was injured by sharp weapons and bombs on Friday night and died on Saturday morning around 4am.

Arafat passed away in Faridpur while he was being taken from Jessore to Dhaka for better treatment.

Two others were also injured in the attack. They are Arafat’s brother Iqbal Munaf Dinu, organizing secretary of Jessore sadar upazila Swechhasebak League and Fazlul Karim Milon, a Jubo League worker.

According to the injured, they were sitting in the Jubo League local office in the Ghop area of Jessore when the attack took place.

Suman, Akash, Kuddus, Israfil, Rezwan, Shakil and 20-25 other men from a rival group went there around 9:30pm and drove them out of the office.

They then stabbed Arafat indiscriminately and exploded three crude bombs before leaving the scene.

Later, locals rescued Arafat and Fazlul and admitted them to Jessore General Hospital.

Doctors suggested taking Arafat to Dhaka, after his condition deteriorated, while Fazlul was undergoing treatment in Jessore.

Arafat died on the way to Dhaka at Faridpur General Hospital. His body has been kept in the Jessore General Hospital morgue.

District Juba League President Mustafa Farid Ahmed Chowdhury was called several times over phone but could not be reached.

Police Inspector (investigation) Abul Bashar said: “I have heard the news of Arafat’s death. A case was filed last night. No one has been arrested yet.”
