Six other people were injured in the incidents on Thursday
At least 12 people have been killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in six districts around the country.
All the incidents occurred on Thursday.
In Dhamrai, two passengers were killed and two others injured when a private car overturned after the driver lost control on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Balitha area in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 42, and Nazmul Haque, 48. One of them was the driver, police said.
Golra highway police Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain said the injured were taken to a local hospital, and added that legal measures would follow soon.
In Tangail, four people, including two children, were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents.
Two men were killed and three injured after three trucks collided into each other at Kalihati upazila near Bangabandhu Bridge on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the morning.
Bangabandhu Bridge East police station SI Nur E Alam Siddiqui said a rice-laden truck, heading from North Bengal, was hit by another crate-laden truck coming from opposite direction near Char Bhabla area. Another truck then hit the second truck from behind.
Five injured were taken to Tangail General Hospital, where duty doctors declared one of them dead. Late, another injured died.
They were identified as Ashikur 22, of Pabna, and Tayubur Rahman, 55, of Natore.
In another incident, a 10-year-old boy named Sagor was killed when a bus ran over him near Kurni area in Mirzapur upazila.
Gorai highway police SI Md Fazlu said Sagor died on the spot while he was crossing the road with his mother, who was taken to Kumudini Hospital.
In the district’s Elenga, another fifth grader boy named Bishal, 12, was killed after a truck hit his bicycle and ran over him in the afternoon.
Elenga highway police outpost’s Sergeant Azizur Rahim Talukder said the child was taken to Tangail General Hospital, where duty doctors declared him dead around 4:15pm.
In Satkhira, a man and a child were killed in separate road accidents in Shyamnagar upazila Thursday morning.
They were identified as Ayesha Moni and Ambar Mistri – both from the same upazila.
Shyamnagar police OC Syed Mannan Ali said Ambar died after he was run over by a motorcycle on Shyamnagar-Kashimari Road, while Ayesha died after being run over by a tractor at Sonarmore area.
The drivers of both vehicles had fled after the incidents, he said.
In Naogaon, a prison guard named Humayun Kabir, 27, of Rajshahi, was killed after being run over by a bus at Manda upazila’s Sutirhat area around 4:30pm Thursday.
Manda police OC Anisur Rahman said a Naogaon-bound bus had hit Humayun’s motorcycle and fled, killing him on the spot, when he was going to Rajshahi.
In Gazipur, two motorcyclists were killed and another injured after a truck crashed into their motorcycle in Kaliganj upazila’s Ulukhola area in the afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Saidur, 25, and Alam, 33. Both were killed on the spot when the truck hit their two-wheeler on the Bypass Road, Ulukhola police outpost In-Charge Golam Maula said.
The Injured, identified as Masuk, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he added.
In Dhaka, a 14-year-old girl named Jannat, who worked at a ready-made garment factory, was killed after being run over by a bus while crossing the road at Pallabi Section 11 Bottola area in Mirpur in the morning.
Another girl of same age, identified as Laboni Aktar, was also injured in the incident. Both of them worked at a garments factory named Taj Fashion.
Both of them were taken to DMCH with critical injuries. However, Jannat, who was from Shariatpur, died there while undergoing treatment around 2:45pm.
Pallabi police later impounded the killer bus, belonging to ETC Paribahan, and detained its driver.
