Suspected drug peddler killed in Rangpur ‘gunfight’

Local police said Rabiul was a notorious drug trader and was accused in 10 drug-related cases

A suspected drug peddler named Robiul Islam has been killed in a “gunfight” with the police in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur district.

Law enforcers also seized narcotics during the anti-drug drive that took place in early hours of Tuesday.

Kaunia police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Abdul Aziz confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Police sources said, a team of police conducted a raid in the Haragach area, on a tip off that a gang of drug peddlers was gathering in the area.

Sensing police presence, the suspected drug traders opened fire at the law enforcers. 

In retaliation, police fired back, leaving Robiul dead, but his associates managed to flee the scene.

Ronbiul’s body has been sent to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
