A source said Shishir sent lewd messages and illicit pictures of himself to classmates and seniors using a fake ID on Facebook
A Rajshahi University law student has been expelled after sexually harassing many students, including a classmate and a senior.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting presided by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Abdus Sobhan at 10am, Thursday.
The expelled student was a third-year law student called Najmul Hasan Shishir.
A source at the syndicate said Shishir sent lewd messages and illicit pictures of himself to classmates and seniors using a fake ID on Facebook. Students from the department looked up the ID, confirmed it belonged to Shishir, and sent a written complaint to university authorities on March 25.
The complaint was vetted by the department academic committee and relayed to higher university authorities as well as its Sexual Assault Prevention Committee on March 27. The latter committee then submitted a probe report on the matter to the university authorities.
University VC Ananda Kumar Saha said: “Shishir used to send lewd pictures and messages to female students using a fake ID. We have expelled him after extensive investigation by the committee concerned.”
It is worth noting that Shishir was previously detained by officers from Malopara Police Station in Rajshahi for sexually harassing girls on Facebook, but was released as the students did not press charges.
