The two, who had been in a romantic relationship, apparently committed suicide after Shudha’s parents refused to allow her to marry Nanda

Four people have committed suicide in two separate incidents in Thakurgaon.

In Pirganj upazila, a boy and a girl committed suicide by hanging themselves from a tree in a mango orchard at Shalgora village on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Nanda Lal Roy, 18, son of Upendra Nath Roy of Chhit Ghidob village, and Shudha Rani, 16, daughter of Tiren Roy of Shalgora.

The two, who had been in a romantic relationship, apparently committed suicide after Shudha’s parents refused to allow her to marry Nanda, according to locals.

However, case investigation officer Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan said they were yet to uncover the cause of their deaths.

“We can tell you the real causes of their deaths once we receive the autopsy reports,” he told journalists.

In Ranisankail upazila, a couple - Jato Roy, 35, and his wife Jukti Rani, 25 - fell sick after taking a phial of poison following an altercation between them Monday night.

Jukti was declared dead at Pirganj Sadar Hospital, and Jato died on his way to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, said Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Pirganj police station.
