An elderly man was murdered by his son after he failed to bring back his daughter-in-law from her parental home.
The incident occurred on Sunday in the village of Kachina under the Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
Jabbar Ali, 65, was hacked to death by his son Billal Hossain, 28.
The police recovered the body on Sunday morning.
Kalihati police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mosharraf Hossain said: “Billal’s wife left him and went to her parental home a few days ago, and Billal pressured his father into going there to bring her back.
“This caused them to have fights, and in the early hours of Sunday, Billal went to Jabbar’s house and asked him to come out. When the latter complied, Billal hacked him to death,” Mosharraf explained.
“Jabbar Ali’s body was sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy on Sunday morning. Billal Hossain has been apprehended, and a case is about to be filed in this regard,” the policeman said.
Chairman of Kalihati’s Narandia Union Parishad Shukur Mahmud said: “Billal’s wife left him because of his violent behaviour and domestic abuse. He has caused trouble many times before this.”
