Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday assured that no tailbacks will be created on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr this year.
The minister was speaking to reporters on Saturday afternoon after examining the overall condition of Nabinagar-Chandra Highway at Ashulia when he discussed the traffic issue which greatly aggravates during holidays.
Obaidul said: “The road conditions have much improved, so there will be no traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway for Eid-ul-Fitr this year.”
He also said construction of an elevated expressway – costing Tk850 crore - from Abdullahpur to Ashulia Bypile DEPZ will start from this October. The minister further warned of punitive actions against extortions on the highway, saying: “Legal steps will be taken if anyone is found involved with extortion on the highways. We will be taking high security measures on different highways including the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.”
