A fifth-grader was gang-raped after she went to visit her relative's house in Manikganj with her father to enjoy a Hindu religious ritual.
A cased was file against three accused with Gheor police station on Thursday night. No one has been arrested as of yet, confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Shibaloi circle, Mahabubur Rahman.
The victim's brother said his sister is a fifth-grader at a school in Manikganj town. She went to visit relatives with her father to Kalta village in Gheor upazila of Manikganj to enjoy Puja festivities.
On May 22, the victim was allegedly lured by neighbour Jasim Miah's 20-year-old son Jony to a nearby field. Later, Jony was joined by 26-year-old Rubel and 25-year-old Shahidul Islam in gang-raping the minor.
The perpetrators were caught red-handed by a few local people.
However, they were soon let go.
According to sources, local union parishad (UP) member Mujibur Rahman and other influential people tried to pressure the victim's family into silence. They tried to come to a settlement with the victim's family by offering them Tk1 lakh.
When none of this worked, they threatened the victim's family.
However, disregarding the threats, the victim's brother filed a case against the three rapists.
Admitting the fact about trying to settle the matter quietly, UP member of ward no 3 of Nali union, Mujibur Rahman said: "We tried to hush the matter as the girl was young and belonged to a different religion."
ASP Mahabubur Rahman confirmed the victim's medical test was completed at Manikganj Sadar Hospital on the day the case was filed. She will be brought in front of the magistrate for her statement under section 164 on today.
