Bus falls off highway in Rangpur, two killed

At least 10 people have been injured

A bus heading to Rangpur from Dhaka with around 50 passengers lost control and fell off the highway in Pirganj, killing two and injuring at least 10 people, on Wednesday.

Highway Police Inspector Moazzem Hosssain confirmed that two persons were killed in the incident that took place in Jagannathpur around 2:30pm.

The injured have been admitted to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Police said the coach, plate number Dhaka Metro Ba 14-0142, fell into a ditch beside the highway at Jagannathpur in Pirganj. Local Fire Service and Highway Police rescued the passengers.

One male and one female passenger were killed.

Injured passenger Momina Begum said the driver had been sleepy from the beginning of the trip.

“Despite our warnings, he was driving too fast,” she said.

Inspector Moazzem said the victims had not been identified yet.
