One killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A 35-year-old unidentified man was killed in an alleged gunfight in Jashore on early Sunday.

The incident occurred in Sujolpur village of Sadar upazila in Jashore.

The man’s face was disfigured due to bullet wounds. He has not been identified yet.

The police claimed that two groups of drug dealers were engaged in a gunfight, and the man died in the midst of it. Law enforcers recovered guns, bullets, and yaba from the scene of the crime.

Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charger (OC) Azmol Huda said: “The police received a tip-off late at night that two groups of drugs dealers were having a gunfight near Chutipur Road beside a rod factory. The police sent a team to the spot.

“They ran away realizing the police had arrived. The police recovered the body of the man and took it to Jessore General Hospital. The doctor on duty declared him dead.”

The OC said the police recovered 500 pieces of yaba, one shotgun, one round of bullets, and four rounds of shotgun shells from the scene.
