A Saudi expatriate says the announcement disturbed his sleep
In a bizarre incident, the imam of a local mosque in Cumilla’s Burichang upazila has been beaten by an expatriate youth for calling Muslims to take sehri using mikes, which the latter alleged disturbed his sleep.
The holy month of Ramadan started in Bangladesh from Friday.
The incident took place in Sadakpur Noapara area in the upazila’s Pirjatrapur union in the early hours of Friday.
The injured was identified as Md Masum, imam of Sadakpur Central Jam-e Mosque.
Md Nurul Islam, president of the mosque’s management committee, said Masum started to call for sehri over mikes from 3am.
Alleging the loud sound disturbed his sleep, 30-year-old Saudi expatriate Mosharraf, son of Md Barek of a house adjacent to the mosque, beat the imam and left him injured.
Hearing Masum’s screams, locals rushed in and rescued the imam.
