Update : 14 May 2018, 09:57 PM

On Monday, a district court in Madaripur court sentenced four people to death for the murder of their relative Shohel Mallik in 2013.

Three of the convicts – Shahin Hawladar, 28, Mizanur Rahman Hawladar, 32, Abdul Khalek Hawladar, 42, were Shohel’s uncles, and the fourth Alamin Kha, was his stepbrother. But all four remain on the run.

The prosecutor and Shohel’s family expressed their satisfaction with the verdict and called for its swift implementation.

According to the prosecution, the four fugitives hacked Shohel to death over a land dispute on the night of August 8, 2013.

After Shohel’s father Siddique Mallik filed a case with Shibchar police station against the four convicts, police filed a charge sheet accusing them of the murder at the end of an extensive investigation.

Shohel’s mother Helena Begum, after the verdict, said: “I am pleased with the verdict. But both my sons are dead now. One was killed and the other will die for killing him. But my motherhood has not deterred my sense of justice. I will see the murderers hang.”
