Nine people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sunamganj, Sherpur, Habiganj, and Moulvibazar districts on Monday.
In Habiganj, two farmers were killed and another was injured when a thunderbolt struck them at Telghari haor under Baniachang upazila in the morning.
The deceased are Adhir Baishnab, 27, and Basu Baishnab, 32, of Daulatpur village.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Baniachang Circle) Shailen Chakma said a streak of thunderbolt bore down on three farmers while they were cutting paddy, leaving Adhir and Basu dead on the spot.
Injured Krishnadhan Baishnab was taken to a local hospital, reports UNB.
In Sunamganj, 65-year-old Nabo Kumar Das, a farmer of Chayer haor under Shalla uapzila, was killed after being hit by lightning while working in his paddy field around 11am.
Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shalla police station, confirmed the matter.
In Sherpur, four people, including a schoolgirl, were killed as they were struck by lightning in different parts of the district.
Class 10 student Sharmin, daughter of Sohel Miah of Pagharia village, died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck her while returning home from tutoring around 8am.
Abdur Rahim, a farmer of Halgara village under Sadar upazila, was killed in another lightning strike while cutting paddy around 10:45am.
Meanwhile, Shahidul Islam, a young man of Mojarchar village, and Kubbat Ali of Bakchar village, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in the morning.
In Moulvibazar, two people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sadar and Sreemangal upazilas of the district.
Sixteen-year-old student Samad Mia died while rearing cattle near his house during the rain in the morning, Khalilpur Union Parishad member Abu Bakar said.
On the other hand, 22-year-old Mofiz Mia was killed and his brother injured in lightning strike while fishing in Sreemangal upazila.
Rofiq Mia, 15, was injured in another lightning strike while cutting grass in the area.
